He has taken the time to learn the craft by studying cameras, film, processing techniques in both film & darkroom work, without relying on enhanced post-production work nor enhancements.

Using film cameras to still precious moments in time his images are developed in a specialized color dark room where he does all the work (considered very rare in this day and age of ‘outsourcing’ and where only a few artists have their own darkroom.)

The images are exposed on the highest quality material available called Fuji Crystal Archive FLEX (FCA). This material has been quality tested and proven to last well over 140 years without UV damage (stored in a purely archival environment they will last significantly longer), meaning Rodney’s fine art photographs can be passed down from generation to generation without risk of fading if properly displayed and stored.

Rodney’s fine art photographs are available in three offerings, Limited Editions, Artist Proofs and Studio Proofs. These photographs are available in loose, matted and framed styles. Framing styles are currently limited to the Vista Mount style.

Limited Edition

Most of Rodney’s images are available in Limited Editions form, typicallyin an edition of 500. Unique edition numbers are displayed on each photograph along with the artist’s signature. Strict assignment guidelines ensure that each individual edition number is assigned to only one collector. A corresponding certificate of authenticity accompanies each photograph. Pricing varies by size and quantity sold, and they are available loose, matted, and/or framed.

After every 100 Limited Edition Fine Art Photographs are sold in an addition of 500 (or 20% of the edition size), the image appreciates to the next Appreciation Level across all sizes, making for a truly “limited edition” image to be treasured always.

Fine Art Photograph Limited Editions, for a given image, will be created in the following image sizes, with the edition being inclusive of size:

Standard format: 16x20, 20x24 or 20x25, 30x40 or 32x40, 40x50, 50x62.5.
Standard Pano format: 10x24, 15x40, 25x66, 31x83, 45x120.
Tall Pano format: 12x20, 24x40, 42x70.

Artist Proof Edition

Artist Proof – “An artist’s proof is, at least in theory, an impression of a ‘image’ 1 / ‘print’ taken in the process to see the current printing state being worked on by the artist. A proof may show a clearly incomplete image, often called a working proof or trial impression, but in modern practice is usually used to describe an impression of the finished work that is identical to the numbered copies.” 2

Artist proofs are a part of the process and are not included in the count of a limited edition. An artist’s proof has special value because of its extra rarity and its possible differences from the “standard” photograph, factors that are often reflected in its price. Collectors also usually prefer final artist’s proofs even when they are identical to the main edition.

Rodney’s makes his Artist Proofs available to the public as high quality photographs limited to 10% of the edition size for each image where available. The value of Artist Proof editions increases based on increased demand and decreased availability. Because Artist Proof editions are inherently unique and fewer are available, they are considered to have a higher value than Limited Edition Fine Art Photographs.

A maximum of 10% of a limited edition photograph, for each image, may be created in the following image sizes, inclusive of size:

Standard Pano format: 10x24, 15x40, 25x66, 31x83, 45x120.
Tall Pano format: 12x20, 24x40, 42x70.

As an example: A Limited Edition Fine Art Photograph from an Edition of 500 may have 50 (10%) in Artist Proof form.

Studio Proof Edition

Art historians, curators, and collectors view working proofsas especially desirable because of their rarity, and the insight they may give into the progress of the work, and because they may well have belonged to the artist himself. These working proofs are so immaculate that they also become the standard by which all other image creations are compared to. Rodney calls these very scarce working proofs, “Studio Proofs” and on rare occasions he makes them available to the public. There are never more than 10% of the Artist Proof Edition that make up the Studio Proof Edition available for an image.

Studio Proofs are limited to the standard sizing, including:

Standard format: 16x20, 20x24 or 20z25, 30x40 or 32x40, 40x50, 50x62.5.
Standard Pano format: 10x24, 15x40, 25x66, 31x83, 45x120.
Tall Pano format: 12x20, 24x40, 42x70.

Fine Art Paper Works

Limited Edition Giclée

Most of Rodney’s images are available as a Limited Giclée Edition in a non-photographic form, typicallyin an edition of 295 by size/material. Unique edition numbers are displayed on each giclée print along with the artist’s signature. Strict assignment guidelines ensure that each individual edition number is assigned to only one collector. A corresponding certificate of authenticity accompanies each print. Pricing varies by size and they are typically available loose, matted, and/or framed. (COVID-19 Update: currently these Limited Giclée Editions are only available loose and only by calling the studio - 833-462-7526)

Fine Art Photograph Limited Editions, for a given image, will be created in the following image sizes, with the edition being inclusive of size:

Standard format: 16x20, 20x25, 32x40, 40x50, 50x62.5.
Standard Pano format: 10x24, 15x40, 25x66, 31x83, 45x120.
Tall Pano format: 12x20, 24x40, 42x70.

Note:

A Giclée is NOT a photograph and should never be confused as one. A Giclée is a paper print, where ink is placed onto paper. A ‘print’ is not a ‘photograph’. The word Giclée comes from the French Language and means ‘to spurt or squirt’ which is exactly how the inks/pigments are put onto the paper substrate which makes up a Giclée print for any given image. Each Limited Giclée Edition is tailored by Rodney himself. Each is printed, one at a time, using one of the best Giclée printers available, utilizing highly specialized archival inks/pigments guaranteed to provide years of enjoyment. While Giclées are more expensive to create than a typical lithograph (i.e. a poster like print from a printing press, typically by the thousands at a time), and are priced accordingly, they are not as valuable as original works like the Limited Edition Photographs, though some try to pass them off as such.
