Prior to winning the Nature Category of the 2007 Windland Smith Rice International Awards (arguably one of the best and most difficult competitions in the World), Rodney had previously already won a number of prestigious awards. Though this would be the beginning of something far greater than he could have ever imagined. To Date: Rodney has a total of three images which are part of the Smithsonian’s permanent collection.
Winning and having this masterful image displayed in the Museum puts Rodney in a very small and elite group of artists. To put it into perspective, there were only 14 category winners that year, which drew in over 52,000 images entered by photographers from all over the world and from some 50+ countries. The winners in each category partner with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History who, along with a small selection of images from the Windland Smith Rice International Awards, were chosen to be displayed for literally millions of viewers during the annual exhibition.

We often get asked where we come up with some of these names. In this case it was easy. Della Terra is Italian for “From the Earth.” What more do we need to say? It’s the perfect description for this wonderful style. Each piece is hand fitted with a very high end tightly woven fabric wrap, in either black or white. Each frame is handcrafted in and imported from Italy, and are sourced from sustainable forestry programs. All you have to do is pick which frame and linen works best for you. The film holders were empty! Can you believe it?! It took me a couple of minutes to load one film holder with only two sheets of film in it. Set up and calculations took a mere minute, [insert sarcasm here] a feat few mortals can accomplish without help from above. Snap, snap...the deed was done.
And then the most awful thing happened. It got better!
Fumbling with the film and holder - this time it took me several minutes to load another two sheets into the film holder (aka-contraptions from hell.) Then I tripped and fell, my nose missing the ground by mere inches.
I rebounded quickly, composed another image and snap, snap.... another deed was done.
Who needs drugs when you’ve got nature’s “Worldly Wonders” around?
